WHIPPANY, N.J., May 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Suburban Propane has been advised of a scam using its company name wherein victims receive written notice that they have been selected to receive a "Prize Winning Payout" of $50,000.  Attached to the written notice is what appears to be a Suburban Propane-issued check for $3,100, which the recipients are instructed to cash and return the money to a London-based tax officer, using Western Union Money Transfer, in order to cover the required "Non-Resident Government Tax."

This press release is intended to warn potential recipients of the written notice that these checks are fraudulent and the mailing is a scam.
